The Health Decisions team is excited about exhibiting at the 2015 Annual Meeting of the Association for Molecular Pathology in Austin, Texas November 5-7. This conference always provides an important status check on progress in precision medicine, as emphasized by this year’s AMP theme: “Realizing the Dream of Precision Medicine.”
We are excited about the scientific program at the conference and will be sending team members to a variety of presentations and workshops to stay abreast of developments in this rapidly changing field.
While progress in molecular diagnostics is rapid, evolution over the next few years is unclear in several respects. During AMP, we are interested in assessing questions like the following:
- Will FDA’s effort to regulate LDTs slow progress in molecular diagnostics, lead to wider distribution of currently lab-bound tests or both?
- Will NGS systems coexist with companion diagnostics or engulf them?
- Will reimbursement policies of healthcare payers delay progress or will more payers begin to recognize the benefits of molecular diagnostics?
- Will this year’s AMP reflect incremental progress or will we learn about breakthroughs?
In addition, we look forward to seeing clients and colleagues from our previous studies of molecular diagnostics. We are especially eager to hear about new opportunities to accelerate development of products that will extend the benefits of precision medicine to new indications. Oncology has been the main driver of precision medicine and we expect that to continue. We are also seeing considerable activity in molecular diagnostics for infectious diseases. We would like to see molecular diagnostics assume a larger role in other therapeutic areas, including endocrinology and women’s health.
If you are going to be in Austin for AMP, please stop by our booth to talk molecular diagnostics and precision medicine. You can find us in booth #123 at the Austin Convention Center.
