Women’s Health Specialty CRO Health Decisions Sponsors 5K Run/Walk for Women at the 2018 ACOG Annual Clinical and Scientific Meeting in Austin

ACOG Annual Meeting LogoDurham, North Carolina. Health Decisions, Inc., the full-service clinical research organization of choice for forward-looking biopharma and medical device companies and a leader in women’s health and diagnostics studies, today announced its sponsorship of the Run/Walk for Women’s Health at the 2018 Annual Clinical and Scientific Meeting of the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG). Chief Medical Officer Andrea S. Lukes, MD, MHSc, FACOG, will lead the Health Decisions team participating in the walk/run, which starts at 6:30 AM on Saturday, April 28. The walk/run recognizes the Healthy Futures Texas program to reduce teen and unplanned pregnancy.

“Health Decisions is pleased to support this event and the cause of reducing teen and unplanned pregnancy and providing appropriate care for teens who do become pregnant,” said Dr. Lukes. “The teen pregnancy rate has declined by 51 percent since 1991 but there is still progress to be made in further reducing unwanted pregnancies and ensuring appropriate prenatal care for pregnant teens and their babies.”

Commitment to Clinical Development and Patient Advocacy in Women’s Health

Health Decisions’ Chief Executive Officer Patrick Phillips, BSc (Hons), D.Phil., stated, “Sponsorship of the 5K Run/Walk for Women’s Health at the 2018 ACOG annual meeting reflects Health Decisions’ commitment not only to clinical development of improved therapeutics and diagnostics in women’s health but also to advocacy for female patient populations with unmet medical needs. Pregnant teenage girls are an example of such a patient population and we welcome the opportunity to sponsor an event highlighting their needs.”

The theme of the 2018 ACOG Annual Clinical and Scientific Meeting is “Medical and Surgical Innovations in Health Care.” Dr. Lukes has expertise in a wide range of medical indications and surgical procedures in women’s health, including endometrial ablation, hysteroscopy, minimally invasive gynecology, bleeding disorders, uterine fibroids, contraception, menopause and vasomotor symptoms, hereditary cancer screening and prenatal counseling. She advises Health Decisions’ clients on development and implementation of research protocols as well as communications and presentations to the FDA.

Poster on Investigative Treatment Option for Uterine Fibroids

During the ACOG meeting, Dr. Lukes and colleagues will present a poster on heavy menstrual bleeding. Dr. Lukes said, “Many women experience heavy bleeding associated with uterine fibroids. I am pleased to join colleagues in presenting the integrated results of two studies showing effective and safe treatment.” Dr. Lukes and her colleagues will present the results in e-poster session Q from 3:30 – 4:30 PM Sunday, April 29, at the Austin Convention Center.

Sponsors are invited to schedule a discussion with a Health Decisions’ clinical development expert at the ACOG meeting in Austin.
